An Australian, Jason Briffa, was reportedly missing after earthquake and tsunami in Japan. Reports say that he was sighted in a village near Sendai helping out other victims in the vicinity. However, her sister does not want to believe on false hope and she wanted to speak with him directly and personally.
Jason Briffa is a 25-year old who is working in Japan employed by Dennis Cusack. Cusack said that Briffa has been positively identified among the people volunteering to help the victims and clean-up.
'We've received reports of people who have spoken to him but we haven't spoken to him ourselves yet so at the moment it's only hearsay,' Melissa said.
'I don't want to get too high on false hope - we've been getting mixed messages for the last three days.
'One time we hear he's on the survivors' list, the next minute he's not, so until we hear from ourselves we're not going to be 100 per cent relaxed.'
Mr Cusack, says the young Australian has been helping villagers clean up.
He says Mr Briffa is in good spirits and has not phoned home because of problems with the phone lines.
'His telephone was running low on batteries and he said he was at Murata high school and he's been helping locals with the clean-up for the past two days,' told the ABC.
Foreign Affairs Minister Kevin Rudd says his department is working with Japanese authorities to find all missing Australians.
